Day 1: Chattanooga to San Francisco
By Jerica Bell and Kayla Haynes
Our day started at 5:15 a.m. when the bus left First Baptist Church on our way to the Atlanta airport. The drive was rainy, but that didn't stop the chatter. Arriving in Atlanta, we checked baggage and went through the security check, which came with its usual nervousness and tension. Thankfully, we all made it through fine without a problem--though we are more aware of the importance of the ticket name matching our name on identification--Virginia vs. Ginny!
At 9:00 a.m. we filed on the plane ready to be on our way. The pilot had other ideas. After a 15-minute extra fueling, the plane departed. Jellinek, Kimsey, and Kendra were our first-time flyers. Needless to say, they enjoyed the trip. During the 4½-hour flight we snacked, talked, slept, and watched the airline-provided movie. Around 11:05 a.m. Pacific time we arrived in San Francisco. After claiming our luggage, we were off to Chinatown. We split into groups with chaperones and began our walk up steep hills to find lunch. We had 3½ hours of shopping in Chinatown (most of the girls applied the saying "a PURSE-driven life"!) before getting on the bus. We stopped by the Treasure Island Naval Base for pictures of the Bay Bridge and San Francisco in the background. Finally, we checked into our hotel rooms, happy to relax a little until dinner on the town.
Looking amazingly awake and cheerful at 5:00 a.m.!
Flying's not so bad!
The girls enjoyed shopping in Chinatown.
A tour tradition--the souvenir hat (complete with a braid!)
The tour choir poses in front of the San Francisco skyline.
Such an exciting end to the day--waiting on room keys!
