2004 Summer Tour: Chicago and Milwaukee

Day 10
Wednesday, June 30, 2004

[This report was e-mailed by Tarbell Patton from his host's home on Wednesday night.]

We started the day with a 7:30 wake-up call and left for Downers Grove at 9:00. The drive took less than an hour. After we arrived at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the girls warmed up for the concert for the Adult Day Care group. They sang an abbreviated concert which the audience really seemed to appreciate.

After the concert it was time for lunch. We went to a nearby shopping district and split up to go to the various restaurants nearby. We regrouped after eating and then were treated to a round of miniature golf by the youth group from Gloria Dei. It was hot, but the girls really enjoyed it.

After golf, it was back to the church for the tour choir's Awards Ceremony that was postponed from last night. [Note from Amy: I understand that some girls brought PJ's to change into in keeping with the tradition of years past, but I can't confirm that they carried through on this!] The seniors performed their skit, and then handed out the awards. Everyone really had a great time.

We were treated to a great fried chicken dinner by the church, after which the girls prepared for the concert. They sang beautifully, and the audience seemed to especially like Chattanooga Choo Choo. Before Mr. Wigal could begin Edelweiss, Mr. Patten stopped him and took the opportunity to explain that this was Mr. Wigal's last concert with the choir. He thanked Mr. Wigal for his dedication to the choir and the girls. The girls then cried and sniffled their way through Edelweiss. It appeared that part of the audience was sniffling, too.

With the last concert over, we went home with our host families. We are Chattanooga-bound tomorrow.

Minigolf
"Hey, that's my ball!" "No, that's my green one!" "That's not green, it's sort of turquoise..."

Tarbell's methods
By the end of the tour, the tour director has developed some interesting discipline techniques!

[Note from Amy: Several photos were added for the last few days, and many more will be added after the choir returns, so be sure to check back!]
