Day 1
Monday, June 21, 2004
The motorcoach drove (backed!) out of the lot at 7:45 this morning--only 15 minutes late!--as family members waved good-bye from the parking lot at First Baptist Church. The drive to Chicago was long but uneventful, with girls sleeping, chatting, and watching movies on the screens in the bus. Aside from a lunch stop where the girls had a choice of several fast food restaurants, there was nothing to delay the bus, and the tour group arrived in Schaumburg, IL (just outside of Chicago) an hour ahead of schedule. Dinner tonight will be at the Rainforest Cafe.
[Added on 6/22] The Rainforest Cafe is an unusual restaurant designed to simulate a tropical rainforest, complete with large trees, animals sounds, fish tanks, and twinkling stars above. (To take a virtual tour of the restaurant on their web site, click here and follow the instructions.) The girls were served large platters of cheeseburgers, pizza, and chicken fingers--not exactly adventurous, but certainly satisfying for hungry teens!
[Note from Amy in Chattanooga: I have been told that there is only dial-up Internet access in the hotel, so we will have few if any photos to show for a few days, since they take so long to send.]
All the tour members gathers for one more picture in front of the motorcoach.
The group seems in high spirits as they prepare to leave Chattanooga.
