Day 7
Thursday, June 12, 2003
The tour choir had another morning rehearsal with Kenneth Fulton and the Iowa choir. It's amazing how much the group improves during a three-hour practice! Dr. Fulton was also emphasizing that a singer's face should show his or her passion for the music, and as an example of two choir members who were already doing that, he brought up a member of the Iowa choir and then Megan, the smallest member of the Girls Choir. That's twice lately that Megan has been recognized for her enthusiasm and dedication. (Incidentally, Intrepid Tours has arranged for a DVD to be made of the concert Saturday; they are selling them at cost for $15. If your child ordered one, it will be shipped to you in August after it is professionally edited.)
Immediately after rehearsal, we boarded our bus to go to the town of Cesk$yacute; Krumlov, a historic and picturesque town inside the Czech Republic. After we cruised easily through customs at the border (we didn't even need to show our passports), our guide found a lovely gravel lot for us to eat a picnic lunch in. We even had entertainment -- Sally showed off her juggling skills with oranges!
When we reached Ceský Krumlov, we divided into groups and wandered through the streets and shops. Some groups went on a tour through Rozmberk Castle while others concentrated on taking advantage of the amazingly low prices on everything from garnet jewelry to marionettes. All of us enjoyed the winding cobblestone streets and the overall cozy feel to the town. Some groups could be seen wandering with ice cream cones in hand, enjoying the extra richness of European ice cream.
After all groups reunited in the old town square, we walked to a nearby restaurant, where they served us all burgers and fries! They didn't exactly taste like home, but it was nice that they made the effort. Dessert was even better: crepes with strawberry jam and french-vanilla ice cream! Not too many complaints!
Eventually, with fuller stomachs and emptier pockets, we made our way back to the bus and headed 'home' to Linz. When we got to passport control this time, we all had to get off the bus and go through passport control. At least we got another stamp in our passports! It was nice to get back to the hotel and relax after the busy day.
The Girls Choir is in red polos and the other choir is in black. Notice the chandelier!
The choir made a sea of red as we wandered through the streets of Ceský Krumlov.
The girls enjoyed this Czech restaurant that served American food.
