July 12: Travel to Columbus, OH
The day started early with everyone ready for breakfast at 7:00. The hotel and restaurant staff were really great, and we were fed, packed, and on the road at 7:55. The drive went very quickly, thanks to the excellent navigating of Mr. Wigal and the wonderful driving of our own Mr. Tim. He has been great. We really hate to say goodbye to him tomorrow.
We arrived in Columbus in time to have lunch, and then check into the hotel by 2:15. This gave us almost 2 hours to rest before we had to leave for our evening concert. The lack of sleep is catching up with everyone, and the girls have been keeping Sharon busy handing out Advil and Pepto Bismol.
We left for the church at 4:00 and arrived in time for the girls to rehearse before being served dinner. Holy Trinity Lutheran is a beautiful church with wonderful acoustics. The concert, which started at 7:30, was one of the best the girls have given. They performed for almost an hour. Two of the girls did not feel well enough to perform, but seemed to be feeling better by the time the concert ended. The choir finished the concert and the performance portion of the tour with "Edelweis" and had part of the audience in tears because they sounded so beautiful. After the concert, we were treated to an ice cream social at which the church members were very quick to tell us how wonderful they thought the girls had done.
After the social, we boarded the bus to return to the hotel. It has been a great trip, but everyone is tired and ready to come home. Mr. Wigal and Mr. Patten even managed to escape having to dress up in choir uniforms for the amusement of the girls. That is one benefit of the girls being tired. Tomorrow, we head for home. Woo hoo, Chattanooga!
