July 4: Travel to Niagara
We departed Cincinnati at 8:05 and drove in and out of rain most of the way. After clearing customs (they didn't even ask for our documents), we made our way straight to Ridley College. Ridley College is a day and boarding school for grades 5 thru 12, and was founded in 1893. We were met by Norm and Marlene, who will serve as our local hosts until we leave for Kingston on Sunday. Our accomodations are a bit on the rustic side (no air conditioning), but we are managing well. Fortunately, the heat wave that brought 95 plus temperatures last week, has given way to temperatures in the low 70's. We also quickly realized that we were supposed to bring towels but had not been notified to do so. This was remedied with a quick run to the local WalMart.
We went to the great hall for dinner, and then assembled for a concert in which the choirs sang for each other. This lasted until 10:00, and was followed by a very brief time for snacks and fellowship in the great hall. Then we hurried back to the rooms in time for lights out at 11:00. After a brief unauthorized visit by some of the boys in one of the other choirs, we got the girls settled and quiet for the night.
[Note: E-mail access was not possible from the dorm in Niagara, so this journal entry was not received until the choir moved to their next stop on July 8.]
