Day 3
Thur., June 22
After another buffet breakfast (this time at 8:30), the choir left on the bus for Disneyland, only a 5-10 minute drive away. We went in a back gate and were warmly welcomed by Erick, a Disney staffer, who showed the girls to a practice hall. Mr. Huey warmed up the girls' voices and they ran through some of the songs, then he started to joke around with them and loosen them up for the performance. He sat at the piano and played some blues and made up silly lyrics, and he was soon joined by the "Blues Sisters," Chaya and Elizabeth, and by Krystal the Vamp! (see photo below) Soon after, Erick returned to lead the choir through the back lot to the stage where they would perform. There was a sign there announcing the choir's performance, but unfortunately, there was construction going on next door which prevented many people from passing by, so no one knew they were going to be there. Once they started singing, however, a few people started to drift in and seat themselves, and they seemed to genuinely enjoy what they heard. The choir did one of their best performances ever, singing with feeling as well as wonderfully in tune. The soloists and percussionists all did an outstanding job as well. Erick told the choir that he was really impressed with their concert, and he presented Mr. Huey with a plaque and gave each girl a "Disney Magic Music Days" T-shirt.
The bus took us back to the hotel to change clothes, then brought us back to the Disneyland front gate by 1 pm. The chaperone groups then had until 9 pm to roam the park and ride as many rides as possible (keeping in mind that we will be back on Saturday). At 9 pm, the groups came to New Orleans Square and saw a spectacular musical fireworks display , followed by an incredible show on the river -- there were dancing water plumes, fireworks, a huge dragon, a pirate ship, a riverboat with almost all of the Disney characters aboard, and so much more. Images and clips from movies were shown on giant "screens" made of water shooting up to form a wall. It was simply amazing. As they girls piled onto the bus at the end of the day, they bubbled over like little kids, swapping stories of which rides were best and discussing what they still wanted to see on Saturday. What was apparent was that a wonderful time was had by all.
---------------------
Mr. Huey plays the blues while Krystal vamps and the Blues Sisters dance (Chaya and Elizabeth).
Jackie and Krystal provide the percussion on this song during the choir's performance at Disneyland.
All work and no play would make a dull tour director! Chitra enjoys a moment of pure fun.
AAAAAH! It's Monstro the whale! Lauren, Morgan, Lisa, Alyson, and Johnna are about to be eaten!
Disneyland caps off a wonderful day with a spectacular closing show.
Dumbo, Mickey, and Goofy (a.k.a. Sarah, Katherine, and Amanda) return to their hotel after a busy day at Disneyland.
